Holiday Looks Part 1: My LRD & More Classic Favorites

Holiday parties are my favorite part about winter (besides all that family time of course.) Who can resist a good DJ, open bar and an excuse to dress up? Christmas in the city is what makes getting through the worst of Chiberia bearable. Not only does the city completely light up — literally everywhere you look there’s a touch of Christmas spirit — but there’s so much to do!

Some of my favorite winter activities are the Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo, ice-skating at Millennium Park, the Official Tree Lighting Ceremony at Daley Plaza, The Joffrey Ballet: Nutcracker (Mikki and I did this last year for a girls night out it was so fun!), Christkindlmarket (the German gluhwein is my sole reasoning for attending this one) and the many, many Christmas musicals that come to town!

Ready for our holiday looks? I bought this dress last year at H&M to wear to a work conference. I needed to pick something up quick but didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I really did not think I would get as much use out of it as I have! I tend to stay away from any color in my wardrobe. Every time I come home from shopping my bags are filled with all neutrals, (anyone else have that issue?) But I am so glad I opted for red on this one. I love that it’s so versatile. The lace and vibrant red color gives it a pinch of sexy (LOL) but both the neck and hemline make it appropriate for most occasions.

I paired it with Aldo nudes (similar style here) which I got for Mikki’s wedding (see this blog post for all the wedding details!) The block heel is a necessity to survive all that dancing. Swap the nude heels for black, and throw on a leather jacket for edgier  holiday looks.

Whether you’re attending a work event, a holiday show, or simply going out with friends, these dresses below are perfect for any holiday occasion! I’d be lying if I said at least a few of these weren’t  currently sitting in my cart waiting for me to pull the trigger. Really, the only thing holding me back is the fear of next month’s credit card bill, haha! Santa, I hope your taking notes! 🙂

If you’re loving the lace look, these two dresses are to die for:

We’re obsessing over the velvet trend this winter. If you’re looking for classy velvet dresses, these two below are amazing:

Another trend we are loving is satin shift dresses. Both of these dresses below are stunning, and would look great on their own. But if you’re looking to dress it up a bit more, pair the satin dressed with a blazer or leather jacket.
