Happy Tuesday, Dolls! I’m slowly getting back in the swing of things after our trip to Scottsdale, Arizona. In case you don’t follow us on Instagram, last week my hubby and I got away for a babymoon. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, it’s basically the last trip you take before the baby arrives.)
Typically when we go on vacations we head to a beach; but for this trip all I wanted was an amazing spa experience. So after doing a little research, I decided on Scottsdale. Plus, I knew the weather would be amazing during January. The last thing I wanted was to be overly hot. I’m 25 weeks pregnant… so yeah, I’m already hot all the time. The weather was absolutely perfect. It was chilly in the morning; around the 50s. And by lunchtime it would heat up to 75. We flew in Wednesday afternoon, and flew home Saturday evening. Personally, I think it was the perfect amount of time to be away.
This resort was absolutely huge, and incredibly gorgeous. All of the rooms are set up as casitas around the grounds. All of the amenities are spread out, but easily walkable. It made it easy to turn down a hike, knowing that we were getting our workouts in by walking around the resort. They had 5 restaurants on-site, but I pretty much lived off of smoothies during the trip.
What We Did
Words can not describe the spa. It was honestly unbelievable. I had a maternity massage and a hydrating facial, and truly felt like a new human afterwards.
Old Town Scottsdale
On Thursday evening we explored Old Town Scottsdale. It’s in the downtown area of Scottsdale and is Western-themed. Everything was so cool, and the restaurants had the BEST Mexican food. I think I ate more guacamole on this trip than is supposed to be humanly possible….
The pools at the hotel were incredible… not to mention the views. We spent two of the days just relaxing by the pool for most of the afternoon. It was so relaxing, and since we were there during the week, it wasn’t busy at all.
Even though it was only in the 70s, we still got a little burnt… I guess that’s what happens when you live in Chicago and never see the light of day. HAHA.
The margaritas in this place looked incredible… not going to lie, i was really jealous of Ryan’s the whole time we were in the restaurant. Cien Agaves is known for their tacos and tequila. We just stopped by for a couple appetizers, and Ryan had a marg, while we were exploring the Old Town area. Their pork queso dip was on another level.
I actually stumbled upon the Baked Bear on Instagram one day, and put it on the top of my must-visit places list. This ice cream shop takes ice cream sandwiches to another level… You pick what homemade cookies you want, followed by your ice cream flavors of choice, and lastly add any rolled toppings to the outside.
I had funfetti cookies, birthday cake ice cream, and rolled in sprinkles. Let’s just say the baby had a bit of a sugar rush.. but it was 100% worth it.
Ryan’s brother is in Med school down in Scottsdale and showed us this gem. It’s completely hidden… (note to those trying to find it.. there is not a sign out front.) but the food was amazing. The restaurant is very small and dark but has an intimate feel. They don’t take reservations, but if you go during a weeknight you shouldn’t have a problem getting in.
Located in downtown Phoenix, this was one of my favorite spots. We actually went here for lunch before our flight home on Saturday. For those who can drink, they have amazing brunch and happy hour specials. And their fries are AMAZING. We had 1/2 order of the garlic & parm fries and 1/2 order of the sweet potato fries. I’m not joking when I say that I’ve been dreaming about the fries the past few nights….
What I Wore
I wasn’t quite sure how the weather would be once we were there, but I figured I couldn’t go wrong with dresses. I’ve been obsessed with Ingrid & Isabel’s maternity line at Nordstrom.
I bought this DRESS (pictured above) and wore it all around for our night in Old Town. I paired it with my Sam Edelman bow slides (available HERE), but it would also be cute with sneakers like THESE and THESE.
This MAXI is by far my favorite maternity-wear purchase thus far. It’s so incredibly comfortable and the fabric is really thick and stretchy. I wore it to dinner at Dick’s Hideaway, and then even wore it to the pool the next day as a cover up. It’s one of those closet staples that can honestly just work for any occasion.
I’ve been wanting to get a maternity swim suit for awhile, and finally found one from Nordstrom. I’ve never been a bikini girl… plus I burn the second my skin sees the sun. So the last thing I wanted was to wear a two-piece and end up burning my bump. I opted for this Kimi and Kai one-piece (available HERE). It is honestly the most comfortable swimsuit I’ve ever worn. Since I’m due in May I figured it will be perfect for those last weeks before I deliver, and even the postpartum weeks that follow the delivery.
Overall, we had a really great trip. Let me know in the comments if anyone has any questions or needs recommendations for their babymoon! I can’t believe the next time we’re on vacation we will have our little nugget with us! Stay tuned next week for my 26 week Bumpdate!!
