Once Ryan asked me to marry him, the first thing I panicked about was the bridesmaids. I already knew exactly who would be in my bridal party, but I wanted to ask them each in a cute and unique way. I had heard of people sending pre-made bridesmaid boxes with cute essentials for the big day, and I thought that was a really great idea. But, I wanted to do something a little bit more creative.
Mikki: Happy Sunday loves! Since it’s National Proposal Day, I thought I’d share the story of how Ryan and I got engaged. Ryan and I planned a trip down to Vegas with my parents back in September for my dad’s birthday. (Or so I thought..) Apparently the trip was planned as a way for Ryan to propose from the start. We landed in Vegas by 8:00 in the morning on September 18. We all checked into the Bellagio and had an entire day of gambling, drinking, and shopping ahead of us. I must not have been paying much attention, because Ryan later told me that he was a nervous wreck all day. We had dinner reservations at 7:30 for my “dad’s birthday,” so we all went up to our rooms a couple hours before to get ready. For the first time in my life, I was actually ready early, so Ryan and I decided to wander around to pass the time.
We went down to the lobby, played a few slot machines, and then Ryan said we should check out the fountain show. We were walking up to the fountain, and a photographer for the Bellagio stopped us. She asked if we would mind taking a few pictures for the hotel once the fountain show began. Of course I didn’t mind, and at this point was still completely clueless.
Right before the show began, the photographer had us take a few normal shots together, and then told us to kiss. I remember hearing the loud noise from the fountain show starting, and all the sudden Ryan got down on one knee. I was in complete shock, and all I remember was Ryan laughing hysterically as he asked me to marry him.
Of course my immediate response was, “If this is a joke, I’m going to kill you.” He laughed even more, told me it wasn’t a joke, put the ring on my hand, and explained that it was all planned from the start. I didn’t even look at the ring until a couple minutes after it happened. The photographer was snapping pictures the whole time, and caught me in and out of shock.
I still can’t believe he actually pulled it all off. I’m a completely control freak, and I usually know everything that’s happening at all times. Everything about the proposal was absolutely perfect. I was so incredibly surprised, and the timing was beyond amazing. Here are some more pictures from the proposal weekend and of the ring.
Next comes the fun part – planning the wedding. My next post shares how I asked my bridesmaids to be a part of my big day!
